Old and new security vulnerabilities in 5G networks

The 5G networks are soon to be deployed commercially later this year as 5G devices are launched officially in Feb 2019. New protection methods and architecture have been proposed by the 3GPP to improve overall resiliency and security of 5G networks. However, there are still some security issues inherited from 4G networks.

In this talk, we discuss inherited and not patched in 5G vulnerabilities at different layers. The discussion also covers interesting insights from our last 3-4 year efforts in fixing these old vulnerabilities. In addition, we reveal a new class of attack against 5G IoT devices and discuss potential countermeasures.
