LTEMap - Mapping the Cellular Network Misconfiguration

Many cellular attacks over the last years are the outcome of configuration flaws in the network. It hasn’t been an easy task for the operators to handle thousands of settings and configurations. And now moving to software defined networks in 5G, brings additional configurational complexity. Given the dominance of IP based mobile networks today, we have none to monitor their security settings esp., over the access networks.

To fill this gap we introduce LTE map, an online web-based tool that geoplot network configurations of 4G and 5G access networks and investigates their security levels. We operate this tool by obtaining signaling information from various mobile devices. We also share raw data (pcaps) with the community for more cocentrated analysis. We suggest best and standard practices to avoid attacks and make secure networks.
