RAN xhaul security considerations

Throughput and lantency requirements on links in the Radio Access Network (RAN) of mobile networks are increasing significantly. Additionally, 5G functional split of base stations and open interfaces defined by O-RAN alliance open up new design options. What do these changes mean for security design of the RAN?

This talk will present security considerations needed for designing a secure RAN backhaul, taking into account implementations, deployment situations, and available design options. What are security differences between fronthaul, midhaul, and backhaul? State-of-the art in LTE will be the starting point, and we’ll look forward to changed conditions that 5G may bring.
