An introduction to automotive ECU research

This talk gives an introduction to automotive Electronic Control Unit (ECU) research. It includes an overview of typical ECUs in a car, bus systems and the type of microcontrollers used in those ECUs. Some examples of what kind of hardware and software systems one encounters in current car ECUs are presented. The focus is on ECUs found in German car brands. This talk highlights some differences of automotive systems compared to typical embedded systems of the IT industry and gives some hints how to start researching automotive ECUs.
